Shashin: Japanese Canadian Studio Photography to 1942

This traveling exhibition is courtesy of the Japanese Canadian National Museum, Burnaby, B.C. Curated by Grace Eiko Thomson, this exhibition looks back through a period of almost fifty years of history, through the eyes of Japanese Canadian studio photographers who operated in Cumberland, New Westminister, and Vancouver, B.C. Together they form a compelling visual record of individuals and groups within the multi-cultural place that was British Columbia during its formative moment.

Nihongo Art Contest Exhibition 2009

Nihongo Art Contest 2009 will be featuring an exclusive exhibition of inspirational artworks by students across Ontario that are currently studying the Japanese language. This year’s juried exhibition will include 210 drawings from students ranging from grades 1 to 12 – including the first few computer graphic illustrations – each unique in its own style, medium and representation of the Japanese character. The collected artworks will also showcase some pieces by kindergarten students and adults.
