This exhibition comprised of 26 images from Erotos, a series of photographs centered primarily on the themes of erotica, life and death. Specifically comparing the human body and form paired with organic flowers or objects, many of the close-ups in the photos act as visual comparisons between nature and mortality. Araki exploits the suggestive power of photography to create images with multiple meanings in a spectrum that encompasses expressions of pure beauty and erotic obsessions. Gendai Gallery was one of the first public galleries in North American to show the work of this renowned artist. Araki is represented in Canada and photos were on loan by LEE, Ka-sing Gallery from the collection of the gallery and the artist.
