Nihongo Art Contest 2011 Award Ceremony and Workshop

Along with the ceremony for the Nihongo Art Contest 2011, Gendai will be hosting a workshop with artist Mitchell Akiyama.

A Soundwalk with Mitchell Akiyama

Mitchell Akiyama's work explores the sensuousness of acoustic and electronic sound. His compositions could be described as digital kaleidoscopes in which avant-garde classical composition and field recordings take on ever-changing forms. His recording with the groups Désormais, Avia Gardner, and Letters Letters range from pseudo-folk to late-night post-disco come-downs to something possibly resembling rock and roll. He has recorded for a variety of record labels in North-America, Europe and Japan. Mitchell also writes about sound, art, and cities and is a PhD candidate in Communications at McGill University.
